Pasture Raised Chicken Eggs
We supply pasture raised eggs. Ours hens live outside and sleep in their coops, they feed on a combination of fresh grass, leftover greens from the market garden, corn and feed pellets. They live well, in an open a rich environment in the centre of the market garden site in between the four main gardens, and are protected against predators by an electric fence. Each day their main enclosure is opened up to an additional area of the market garden for them to use as pasture. This makes for happy hens and, as we know, a happy hen makes a delicious egg.
Our hens also form another circular system in our market garden, they eat leaves that are not fit to go in veg boxes, they then produce chicken manure, which is a fantastic nutrient dense amendment for the soil which in turn contributes toward growing great veggies. They also feed on the various grubs and other insects in the grass and soil keeping everything in balance.
