We are increasingly growing green manure cover crops as part of our rotations. This bed is full of white mustard which will soon be cut down to then rot into and feed the soil. In the meantime the flowers are absolutely alive with bees!
This is good news as pollinator numbers have been noticeably low this season due to the warm weather bringing them out too early when food was in short supply. To see them in large numbers again is a really great.
This is a great example of how cover crops deliver value to the soil ecosystem and to the ecosystems above ground too, all while keeping weeds at bay.
